Douglas Martinez, Ph.D., has had over 20 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of sexual offenders. He is a member of ATSA and has led groups for offenders and victims for 20 years.
Education
B.A. Rutgers University, 1973. Psychology major, Social Work concentration.
M.A. Rutgers University, 1983, Applied Clinical Lifespan Psychology. Internship: The Forum School , Waldwick , N.J. (9/81 to 6/82). Studied autistic children and provided family therapy to their families.
Ph.D. Hofstra University, 1996. School and Community (Clinical) Psychology. Clinical internship in assessment and therapy of adults, adolescents and families, Institute for Evaluation and Planning, Freehold, NJ ( 8/93 to 6/95). Dissertation topic: Sex Offenders' Histories of Abuse and Subsequent Offending Behaviors, a study of 140 incarcerated sex offenders' childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse experiences and subsequent adult offenses, using interviews and written protocols.
Certification
New Jersey Certified in Advanced Studies in Child Maltreatment with a Specialization in Child Sexual Abuse . Certifying authority: The New Jersey Child Abuse Training Institute, a funded initiative of the New Jersey Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect. First certification of its kind in New Jersey , awarded to approximately 30 professionals statewide; September, 2004.
September, 1989 to Present
Consultant regarding adult and adolescent sexual offender assessment and treatment, including psychophysiologic assessment, as well as sexual abuse victim program development. Major projects included:
June, 1997 to Aug. 2003: Ohel Children's Home and Family Services, Brooklyn, NYC. Developing an outpatient assessment and treatment program for adult sex offenders and victims of sexual abuse in the orthodox Jewish communities of Brooklyn and Queens, NYC, and surrounding areas at the request of the Brooklyn Office of the District Attorney. Included staff education and training and program design.
May, 1995: Hahnemann University, Philadelphia , PA. Constructed a psychophysiologic assessment laboratory.

Research Scientist / Therapist. New York State Psychiatric Institute, Sexual Behavior Clinic. Responsible for psychological, psychosexual, and psychophysiologic assessments, treatment and research of adolescent and adult sexual offenders and victims of sexual abuse. This included research data management and data analysis, as well as training and supervision of psychophysiologic assessment procedure. Trained in sex offender assessment and treatment, and in forensic report writing by Judith Becker, Ph.D.

Child abuse and neglect, sexual victimization, effects and treatment of trauma, sexual and physical aggression, forensic psychology and criminal behavior, child and adolescent development and behavior, and family and community systems.

New Jersey Legislature grant to implement a forensic and clinical child abuse program in Morris and Sussex Counties for child victims of sexual and physical abuse, sexual offenders, and construction/development of the Sussex County Child Advocacy Center . Second and third years included development of two therapeutic group homes. Total annual contract responsibility in excess of $3,000,000.
